ST LEONARD STREATHAM

St Leonards is the parish church of Streatham and dates back some 800 years. Like many parish churches, it contains elements of this history in its fabric. It has been added to and destroyed several times during this period, most recently after a fire in the 1970s when it was reconstructed in a style mixing comtemporary timber work with the early cast iron structure. We have carried out a number of repairs, including re-constructing the buttresses to the mediaval tower, reslating the roof and underpinning the north porch, a corner of which was about to collapse into the church yard. We also added new facilities to enable the church to widen its activities and enhance its role as a focus for the Streatham community.
